Characteristics of our Handmade Microcement Pieces
Here at Curated Homeware we create hand-made, micro-cement pieces using a variety of natural materials. Blending aggregate, cement and pigments together is a skill which results in a unique finish. Variations in colour, tones and surface texture are to be celebrated; these characteristics are what we believe makes micro-cement such a beautiful material to work with and display in your space.
Natural variations in tones, colour, surface texture and pinholes should be expected and have no bearing on the structural integrity of your micro cement item and are not seen as imperfections or defects.
Completely made by hand... not machines
Each piece from start to finish is completely handmade, therefore if you are looking for a 'perfectly' cut and shaped table, this isn't for you.
Cut by hand
As each piece is cut by hand and no two items will be the same. Small variations is shape, finish and slightly uneven edges are to be expected and not considered a defect but more proving that they are organic, authentic, unique and gives more of that true handmade feel. We do not use machines whatsoever, so please don't expect clean precise cuts the way a machine would make it.
Pin holes
There maybe small pinholes visible on the surfaces, again we celebrate these as these make the surface look more like the natural aesthetic of concrete and stone and provide texture and characteristics that you wont find in mass produced products.
Surface finish & Colour
Variations in tones and colour are inherent to microcement, defining its characteristic artisanal, concrete like appearance. Because it is hand applied in thin layers, the material naturally develops a 'cloud' effect where water and pigments settle differently, resulting in subtle artistic inconsistencies rather than a flat uniform colour.
Trowel lines maybe present on the surface, although we try to minimise these as much as possible, small markings may still be visible in areas.
